Transponder Key Programming in Vancouver

A modern car key only starts the engine if its chip is registered to your vehicle’s immobilizer — cut it without programming and the doors work but the engine stays dead. We cut and program transponder keys for most makes and models, on-site anywhere across Greater Vancouver, so you drive away with a key the car actually recognises.

What it is

Why a chip key needs programming

Since the late 1990s almost every car has an immobilizer — a security system that will only crank the engine when it reads a matching transponder chip embedded in the key. Cut a fresh blank and it turns the ignition mechanically, but the engine control unit sees an unknown chip and refuses to start, usually flashing a security or key light on the dash. To make a key start the car, the chip has to be paired to your vehicle’s onboard immobilizer, and often the older lost key has to be wiped so it can no longer be used.

We handle both halves of that job in one visit. First we cut a key to your vehicle’s code or by decoding the existing lock, then we program the chip using onboard sequences or our diagnostic equipment plugged into the OBD port — whichever your make and model calls for. We come to you across Vancouver rather than making you tow the car, and we confirm the exact price before we start, so there are no call-out surprises when the key is cut.

What’s included

What a transponder key job covers

  • Cut to your vehicle. Key blade cut to your car’s key code or decoded from the existing lock so it turns cleanly.
  • Chip paired to the immobilizer. The transponder is registered to your engine control unit so the car starts.
  • Onboard or diagnostic method. We use manual onboard sequences or OBD programming tools, whichever your make requires.
  • Lost keys wiped. On a lost-key job we can delete the missing key from the system so it no longer starts the car.
  • Spare & extra keys. Add a second working key so you’re never left with a single point of failure.
  • Start tested before we leave. We confirm the engine cranks and the security light clears on every key we program.
How it works

From roadside call to a key that starts

01

Identify the vehicle & key

We take your year, make, model and VIN to confirm the right blank, chip type and programming method before we roll out.

02

Cut & program on-site

We cut the blade to code, pair the chip to your immobilizer, and wipe a lost key from the system where needed.

03

Test the start & hand over

You watch the engine crank and the dash security light clear, then drive off — at the price agreed up front.

Why call us

Dealer keys without the dealer wait

The dealership will usually make you tow the car in, wait days for a key to arrive and pay a premium for the privilege. We come to you — Downtown, Yaletown, Kitsilano, Mount Pleasant, East Vancouver, Kerrisdale, Dunbar, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster or the North Shore — and cut and program most transponder keys on the spot, with an average response of about twenty minutes and service around the clock.
