Downtown Vancouver, Gastown and Coal Harbour
Towers with a strata attached. Suite cylinders often sit on a building key system, the lobby and parkade run on fobs, and Gastown storefronts add roll-up shutters and panic bars.
East Vancouver and Hastings-Sunrise
Older houses, many split into suites. Pre-war mortise hardware, doors that swell in winter, strike plates that no longer line up, and rekeys across several entries at tenant turnover.
Kitsilano and the beaches
Heritage houses, beach-side walk-ups, rental suites and the shops along West 4th. Each kind of door takes a different lock, and a heritage door needs careful fitting for a modern deadbolt.
Yaletown and False Creek
Warehouse lofts on Hamilton and Mainland, towers along Marinaside. A loft door and a tower door are different jobs, and in the towers the fob and the suite key are separate systems.
UBC and Point Grey
Campus residences, Wesbrook Village strata and West Point Grey houses, each with a different owner. Residence doors go to the front desk, not a locksmith; homes and rentals off campus are the owner's call.
Marpole and Oakridge
Post-war bungalows on the side streets, new strata along the Cambie corridor. A new building can leave the builder's keys working until someone rekeys, which is worth doing early.
Burnaby, from Metrotown out to Lougheed
Four town centres, Metrotown, Brentwood, Edmonds and Lougheed, with houses and townhomes between. Tower suites, older homes and mall parkades each bring their own work.
North Vancouver, from Lonsdale to Deep Cove
The City and the District are separate municipalities under one name, from Lower Lonsdale to Deep Cove. Salt air, rain and steep lots are hard on door hardware there.

Mount Pleasant and Main Street

The West End and Davie Village
Rental walk-ups and older towers, many on a building key system the manager controls. If you rent, a rekey between tenants starts with the owner or manager. See rekeying.
Fairview and South Granville
Mid-rise condos, offices along Broadway and shops on South Granville. When staff change, an office usually needs a commercial rekey or a proper master key system.
Kerrisdale, Dunbar and the west side

Bridges, the tunnel and parkade access all shape the trip.
Across water, your visit takes more planning. The North Shore means the Lions Gate or Ironworkers Memorial bridge. Richmond means the Oak Street, Knight Street or Arthur Laing bridge, and Delta adds the Massey Tunnel.
Central Vancouver, from Mount Pleasant through East Van and across to Kitsilano, has nothing to cross. Traffic and parking matter more there than distance.
Downtown is the odd one. Distance is rarely the issue. The hard part is the last hundred metres: often nowhere legal to stop, no visitor bay, and a lobby to be let through.
Parkades add a step of their own. A gate or a fob-only elevator can sit between the locksmith and your car or your door, so mention it when you call.

If it is in the Lower Mainland, yes. The names here are examples, not the limit. Give us the address or the nearest intersection when you call.
Do you work for businesses outside Vancouver too?
Yes. Your storefront or office gets the same service anywhere in the Lower Mainland. Work beyond a single cylinder usually starts with a commercial walk-through, which costs you nothing. See commercial locksmith.
I am locked out of the lobby as well as my suite. Can you get me in?
Someone who can open the building has to let the locksmith in: a concierge, the manager or a neighbour. Your suite door gets non-destructive entry first, wherever the lock allows. See home lockouts.
Do you work on cars in a parkade or on the street?
Yes, wherever your car can be reached. If it is in a parkade, tell us the level and how to get past the gate. For key work, have the year, make and model ready.
