1. Tell us the building name and whether it is Hamilton, Mainland or the seawall side
Yaletown buildings go by name more than by number, and several have entrances on two streets at different levels. Your building name plus which side you are on saves more time than the street address.
2. Meet us at the lobby door, or buzz us up from the intercom
Nearly every building here is fob-controlled. We will not pick our way through a common door, so reaching your floor needs you, a concierge, a neighbour or the property manager. Arrange that before the visit.
3. ID at the door, licence shown, price agreed, then we start
Photo ID matching the suite, or paperwork if yours is inside. The locksmith shows ID without being asked. The $75 mobile service call is never the whole bill; nothing begins until you approve the number.

Locked out of the lobby, or out of your suite? People mix the two up in Yaletown towers, and the answer decides whether you need us at all.
Your suite lock is an ordinary mechanical cylinder, and it goes with the suite, not the building. With the right authorization we can open, rekey or replace it, within the strata's bylaws.
The exception: if your tower keys every suite into a restricted key system the strata controls, a new key on that profile needs the strata's sign-off. We will not work around it.
Your fob opens the lobby, the parkade, the elevator and the amenity rooms. It belongs to the building's access system, which the strata or the property manager runs, not the resident.
When your fob stops working or gets deactivated, the building office fixes it. We cannot reprogram building fobs, and a copy made elsewhere can be switched off by the strata.
So: key trouble is ours, fob trouble is theirs, and some lockout calls turn out to be the second kind.

Can a Yaletown loft door with original warehouse hardware take a modern deadbolt?
Often, but it is a measuring job, not a shopping job. Conversion-era doors are frequently thicker than standard, with odd-sized mortise pockets. If yours is heritage, servicing the original lockset is often the better choice.
Can a smart lock go on my Yaletown suite door without affecting the fire rating?
It depends on the lock and its fitting, since your door's rating covers the whole assembly. The smart lock has to suit a rated door, be fitted to its instructions and have strata approval.
My suite key works but my Hamilton Street lobby fob does not. Is that a locksmith job?
No. Your fob is programmed by the strata or the property manager. Start with the building office.
Can you make a car key in a Yaletown parkade when the elevator needs a fob?
Yes for most vehicles, once access is arranged. Tell us the level and stall, and have someone bring us down or arrange the gate. Key work is the same at P3 as at the curb.
