How a fingerprint lock works
A fingerprint lock reads the ridges of your finger against prints it has stored, and unlocks in well under a second when they match. Modern sensors are capacitive rather than optical, so they read the live surface of your skin instead of a flat picture — a photo of a print won’t open the door. Each person you enrol gets their own slot, so you can add a housemate or an employee and remove them later without recutting a single key. Most units also keep a keypad and a mechanical key as backups, so a flat battery or a cut finger never leaves anyone stranded on the step.
The part that decides whether you love the lock or fight it is the fit and the enrolment, not the box. We check that your door and its existing bore will take the model you want, mount the reader square so it reads first time in Vancouver damp and cold, and enrol each finger two or three times from slightly different angles so a wet or gloved hand still works. Then we walk you through adding and deleting users yourself, because a biometric lock is only convenient if managing it is.
