Start with the system you already use. The lock has to support it, and some systems need a hub first.
HomeKit lock setup with Apple Home
Your lock has to support Apple Home. You scan its setup code into the Home app on your iPhone. Control from away and automations need a home hub: an Apple TV or HomePod.
Google Home lock setup and Assistant routines
Most locks join Google Home by linking the lock maker's account, or with a Matter setup code. A routine can lock every door at bedtime. Unlocking by voice usually needs a spoken PIN.
Alexa smart lock setup and voice unlock limits
Alexa usually links a lock through the lock maker's skill. Voice locking works once linked. Voice unlock stays off until you switch it on and set a voice code in the Alexa app.
Wi-Fi versus Bluetooth versus Z-Wave smart lock connections
Wi-Fi locks reach your router directly but drain batteries faster. Bluetooth locks talk to a nearby phone and need a bridge for remote access. Z-Wave locks need a hub: SmartThings or many alarm panels.

A Bluetooth lock may need the maker's Wi-Fi bridge for remote access. A Z-Wave lock needs a hub, and a Thread lock needs a border router. We check what you already own first.

Front, back and garage doors can join one home in a single visit. Each lock still needs its own fit check, calibration and test, so the quote follows the doors.

Where the lock keeps a key cylinder, we can rekey it to match your other doors or cut spare keys on the same visit, so one key still fits the house.

Can Siri or Alexa unlock my door by voice?
Yes, with safeguards. Siri on an iPhone asks you to unlock the phone first. Alexa and Google Assistant need a spoken PIN. Some locks do not offer voice unlock at all.
Does a HomeKit lock need an Apple TV or HomePod at home?
Not at the door: your iPhone talks to the lock directly when nearby. Remote control, automations and away-from-home alerts need a home hub, an Apple TV or HomePod that stays at home.
Will my smart lock keep working if I switch from Google Home to HomeKit?
Yes, with its own app, codes and key. Joining the new platform depends on the model. Matter locks move between platforms more easily. Some older locks do not support HomeKit at all.
Can a smart lock share access with someone who has no smartphone?
Yes, if the lock has a keypad. Give them their own code, on a schedule if you like, and delete it later without changing anyone else's. On locks with a cylinder, a key works too.
Can the door lock itself when everyone has left?
On most platforms, yes. A location rule can lock the door when the last phone leaves home. It relies on every phone sharing its location, so keep a timed auto-lock as the backup.
